The projected sales of over $5.6 million for the year also showed them that Beyond Sushi was a fine investment option. They were also impressed by how he had managed to make his Manhattan operations a success. Sharks liked the taste of Guy’s plant-based sushi recipe. He asked for the investment in exchange for 25% and 5% of equity shares of the West Coast operations and well-established East Coast business, respectively. Guy went to the show while seeking a $1.5 million investment. Besides talking to various LA-based investors, Guy decided to try his luck on Shark Tank- ABC’s popular business reality show. However, he wanted an immediate reinforcement of investment to keep Beyond Sushi operation smooth on that new front. However, starting a restaurant chain on the West Coast is not a mean task even if you own a well-established enterprise in any other part of the country. In short, Beyond Sushi could get more tremendous success there than what it had had on the East Coast. He also researched and evaluated that his vegan-friendly sushi has more demand in LA and other West Coast cities. After conquering the East Coast with his sushi recipe, Guy planned to introduce it to the West Coast’s sushi lovers. He extended its operations to four more locations across Manhattan in the next few years. His plant-based sushi became an instant hit, especially among vegans. A few years later, he launched his first restaurant in Manhattan and named it “Beyond Sushi”. This was when he thought of launching his own restaurant that would offer plant-based sushi to patrons. He noticed that many people wanted to eat sushi for its presentation, ingredients, and sauces but without consuming raw fish.
